At the beginning of summer I finally decided, just before turning 21, it was finally time for me to leave my parents home. All things considered, everything was (and is still for the most part) going smoothly. I loved the house, the location, and definitely the sense of independence feels awesome. I think after being trapped in my parents home for 4 months during coronavirus initiated me to make a change and without much planning I took the leap and moved out with my best friend. Originally I was only supposed to be moved out for the summer, I signed a three months sublet agreement and I was under the assumption I would be back living with my parents when I went back to school. So the leap I took wasn’t very big but it still counts! As the weeks passed my best friend and I decided that we actually work super well as roommates, and in September we signed a year long lease with 4 of our other friends.

Living here in June, July and August was a breeze. I got most of my hours at work cut because of pandemic related issues, but in all honesty, I have no complaints about having the summer off. Every day I would sleep in, hit the lake, hang out with my friends or do some sort of activity. Because of this super laid back summer, I lost any type of structure or routine as you could imagine. Near the end of summer I started feeling pretty lousy, I was always so exhausted, but from what? That’s when it hit me (and where my inquiry comes in). I hadn’t cooked a single “proper” meal the entire summer. For the past 20 years I could rely on my parents consistent cooking every day. I somehow lived off of tortilla chips, hash browns and produce the entire summer. When September hit I decided it’s time for me to start cooking/baking good nutritious food for myself. Once I heard about the inquiry project I thought perfect! What an awesome opportunity for me to document this experience. Throughout the term I will be documenting different low-budget recipes that I will be making and reviewing them. (Keep in mind that I have almost little to no experience in the kitchen)
